Catalyst to host Welcome Back Coffee →
The central room of the Catalyst will be host to the annual College of Education Welcome Back Coffee on Tuesday, August 24th. This means that the Catalyst will not be open to students until approximately 10:00 a.m. that morning as faculty and staff greet new members and reestablish old ties at this informal gathering hosted by the Dean’s Office.
Time to change your eID password →
It's that time again to change your eID password for the fall semester. You have until September 9th to change it online. You can manage your password and your eID profile by going to https://eid.k-state.edu/. A word of caution– the start of the school term seems to be when the spammers come out with new ways to get you to reveal your eID and password combination. If you receive an e-mail asking for your eID and password– even though it appears to come from university sources– ignore and delete it. Only change your password by navigating to the secure university website, not by clicking on a link in an e-mail.
While writing this article for the newsletter, after just changing my eID password, the following e-mail appeared in my Inbox. This is exactly the type of thing that should be deleted immediately!

The Seeing ME book collection →
This book collection was developed by two College of Education professors, Dr. Laurie Curtis and Dr. Gayla Lohfink, as a part of a Tilford Grant called Seeing ME: Reaching Diverse Populations with Multicultural Children's Literature. They created their “wish list” and then compared it against the MEAC Library resources and asked us to include the books in the MEAC collection because it fit well with our mission. Most of the books are bilingual children's picture books and are currently used in the Block classes as a resource for the elementary students preparing to be teachers to read aloud and video tape themselves doing so. They then share their book with their classmates.
The brochure describing the program can be found at http://www.k-state.edu/chalc/Assets/seeingme_brochure.pdf
The books are located in the Catalyst, on the west wall near the past issues of our magazine collection.

Behind the Counter Profile: Emily Surdez →
Fourth in a series of profiles of our behind the counter student staff
Hometown: Sabetha, Kansas
Year at K-State: Senior
Major: Ag Communications and Journalism; Minor: English
Activities: College of Ag Ambassadors, Sigma Alpha, STUMO, Student Alumni Board
Favorite K-State Experience: Participating in the Ag Ambassadors and Student Alumni Board mentoring programs has been one of my favorite K-State experiences. In both mentor pairings, I was blessed to build friendships with some incredible young women. It was amazing to grow with them and then watch them succeed in the organization!
